Bobble letters Y and ... Free Crochet Patterns

The next two bobble letters. 
This week we are making the happy letter 'y'. 
And a nice extra for making our text special.

Crochet the letter 'y' with the same color as the letters 'a', 'e' and 'o'.


Abbreviations US terms


ch = chain
t-ch = turning chain; this does not count as a stitch
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
cl = cluster bobble stitch or stitch
st = stitch
2 sc tog = crochet two single crochets together

Work Description 


Letter y


*Crochet ch 27 (not too tight!).

Round 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 
Work 1 sc in each next ch, 1 t-ch (does not count as st) (26)
Each row below has 26 stitches. Turn to the other side.

Round 2: 1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch. Turn.
Round 3: 1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch. Turn.

Now measure the crocheted piece on the canvas. 
The strip should fit nicely on the front of the canvas.
It should not stabbing too much over the edge.
There will be a crochet edge along the square.
That must connect tight on the canvas. 
Your work should measure between 10 and 11 cm wide.

Is your work too large for the front of the canvas?  
Then you work is not tight enough. 
Crochet again with a smaller crochet hook (2.5mm)
Make sure this time is slightly firmer.

Is the strip is too small for the front of the canvas? 
Then you crochet too tight. 
Start again. 
Make sure you crochet lnot so tight this time. 
Use a hook 3.5mm.*

Round   4:  9 sc, 4 x (1 cl, 1 sc), 9 sc, 1 t-ch, turn your work
Round   5:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch,  turn
Round   6:  7 sc, 1 cl, 9 sc, 1 cl, 8 sc, 1 t-ch,  turn
Round   7:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn
Round   8:  5 sc, 1 cl, 13 sc, 1 cl, 6 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round   9:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 10:  19 sc, 1 cl, 6 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 11:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 12:  9 sc, 4 x (1 cl, 1 sc), 2 sc, 1 cl, 6 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 13:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 14:  7 sc, 1 cl, 9 sc, 2 x (1 cl, 1 sc), 5 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 15:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 16:  5 sc, 1 cl, 13 sc, 1 cl, 6 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 17:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 18:  5 sc, 1 cl, 13 sc, 1 cl, 6 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 19:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 20:  5 sc, 1 cl, 13 sc, 1 cl, 6 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 21:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 22:  5 sc, 1 cl, 13 sc, 1 cl, 6 sc, 1 t-ch, turn 
Round 23:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn 
Round 24:  5 sc, 1 cl, 13 sc, 1 cl, 6 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 25:  1 sc in each stitch

*Now measure your work on the square canvas.
Your work must fit nicely on the flat front of the canvas. 
It may be a little bit sticking out over the edge.
Also make sure your work is exactly square.
Not smaller than 10 cm by 10 cm or bigger than 11 to 11 cm.

Does the work fit well and is it square?
- Yes, the work fits and it is a square!
Continue with the sides (see description in this post).
Don't cut the yarn, but continue.
From now on don't turn your work anymore.
Crochet around the sides of the square.
See the description below after the scheme.

- No, the work is not a square or is not long enough!
Then continue to crochet as follows:

Round. 26: 1 t-ch, turn your work, 1 sc in each st, 1 t-ch, turn.
Round. 27: 1 sc in each stitch, NO t-ch, Do not turn anymore.

Now crochet around the edge.

Work Description

Start in the same way as with letter y.
Crochet the first part of the letter y from * to *.

Round   4:  8 sc, 7 x (1 cl, 1 sc), 4 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round   5:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn 
Round   6:  6 sc, 1 cl, 19 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round   7:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn 
Round   8:  4 sc, 1 cl, 5 sc, 3 x (1 cl, 1 sc), 2 sc, 2 x (1 cl, 1 sc), 4 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round   9:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn 
Round 10:  2 sc, 1 cl, 5 sc, 1 cl, 7 sc, 2 x (1 cl, 1 sc), 2 sc, 1 cl, 3 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 11:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn 
Round 12:  2 sc, 1 cl, 5 sc, 1 cl, 9 sc, 1 cl, 3 sc, 1 cl, 3 sc, 1 t-ch, turn
Round 13:  1 sc in each stitch, 1 t-ch, turn
